Comfort, understanding, compassion and competence is essentially what we desire in a physician. Many women prefer a female physician simply because they have an understanding of the female body no man can ever have. Throughout American history immigrants have sought and preferred medical care from physicians that share their culture, language, and traditions. There needs to be an effort to develop and motivate all minorities to enter the medical as well as other fields where representation is inadequate. To do that we must overhaul the American educational system.
