Post-racial? Bulls—!! Redux

The farther along we go into President Obama’s term as the nation’s first African-American President the more my belief that the United States was not ready for any sort of change.  The fact is that many in America are hypnotized and enthralled with white  political power. The personal attacks weathered by the President would be in no measure different if Hillary Clinton would have been elected as the first woman President. In fact, it may even be more venomous.

Marilyn Davenport’s e-mail depicting the President and his family goes beyond irresponsible. It is a public declaration of how she feels about all African-Americans. The truth of her feelings came out under the guise of an “internet joke.” A joke? I don’t think anyone is laughing, especially African-Americans.  I know I am not.

Marilyn Davenport represents the 72nd Assembly District in Orange County California on the Republican Party’s Central Committee, an area that is approximately 1.98% African-American.  According to the OC Weekly her response thus far has been:

“Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people–mostly people I didn’t think would be upset by it.”

Any person in her private circle who received the message should have been completely dumbfounded and upset.  In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a person in that inner circle who leaked the message to the media. As a public figure, an official of a major political party she should immediately resign or be forcibly removed from all political posts she now holds by her Republican Party peers.

We have been referred to as three-fifths human in the U.S. Constitution (a detail that was edited from the reading of the Constitution in the House of Representatives earlier this year). We have been called everything but, “a child of God” in this nation. We have been lynched, burned, bitten, and hosed in the cause for equality. For anyone to disrespect our humanity and espouse this sort of hatred, that person does not deserve to represent anyone in a legislative body, anywhere in America.  We must continue to yield the power we have at the voting box and the roughly $1 trillion in buying power we have to force change in this nation. That’s right Mr. Trump, I haven’t forgotten your comment either. This Black will be exercising my right to turn the dial from “The Celebrity Apprentice” you do not have a good relationship with this one.

Post-racial?  BULL****!!!
