We MUST stop using the television set as a babysitter. Children doesn’t learn anything from the majority of TV they watch. The exception is public television and shows like: Sesame Street, Electric Company, Clifford, etc. those are excellent shows that do help our children. Seven hours is way too much time watching what my parents called, “the idiot box.” Instead of letting children “vegetate” watching television; read to them, have them read to you, talk to them, teach them how to sweep, mop, cook, or any other “life skill.” Kids watching large amounts of television contributes to behavior and learning problems. STOP this trend!
The TV set vs. black families: African Americans must quit their terrible 7-hour-a-day diet.
I read this earlier today. It’s amazing how television is being used to raise our children. And if you pull them away, they’ll adjust. They’ll learn to play, read and all sorts of other wonderful things. Just need to make it happen.
