Escape Plan
Another geriatric action film. Arnold Schwartzenagger and Sylvester Stallone star in this film about a man who designs prisons who finds himself imprisoned in one and plots to escape. Escape Plan opens October 18, 2013 and also stars Jim Caviezel, Vincent D’Onofrio, 50 Cent, Vinnie Jones, and Amy Ryan.

Stars, politicians, friends and family pack 1,500 seat funeral for ‘Sopranos’ star James Gandolfini

Friends and co-stars filled a Manhattan cathedral today to remember James Gandolfini, a “big teddy bear,” whose larger than life role as Tony Soprano often consumed him in darkness.There were enough actors and extras to film a Sopranos scene at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in Morningside Heights, where Gandolfini’s funeral drew a thick crowd. Gandolfini, 51,a New Jersey native who earned international fame, died last week after suffering a heart attack while vacationing in Rome with his family.
The list of heartbroken mourners could have easily been pulled from the credits that ran after his groundbreaking show. It included co-stars Eddie Falco, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Tony Sirico, Steve Schirripa, Aida Torturro and Steve Buscemi.
They were joined by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and such stars as Dick Cavett, Mario Batali, Chris Noth and Brian Wiliams.
Cameron Diaz Signs On for Will Gluck’s “Annie” Film Remake, Starring Quvenzhane Wallis

Golden Globe nominee Cameron Diaz has signed on for “Annie,” the upcoming film remake of the 1982 movie musical that will star 2013 Academy Award nominee Quvenzhane Wallis “Beasts of the Southern Wild”, according to Deadline.com.
Diaz, known for her on-screen work in such films as “There’s Something About Mary,” “Shrek,” “Being John Malkovich” and “Charlie’s Angels,” has concluded negotiations with Sony’s Columbia Pictures to play the evil orphanage matron Miss Hannigan.
Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock “The Blind Side” was previously in talks to star.
Oscar winner Jamie Foxx “Ray” is attached to star opposite Wallis in the film, which will be produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z. He will play a character named Benjamin Stacks, a variation of Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks.
As previously reported, the film is expected to begin production this August, and some of the characters’ names have been changed for the remake. An earlier casting notice for the Columbia Pictures film asked for actresses to play an 11-year-old foster child
named Isabella, who dreams of a better life involving a “no-limit credit
card and shopping sprees galore,” and an eight-year-old child named
Mia, who has a slight speech impediment. Other orphan characters such as
Tessie and Pepper remain similar to the original 1977 musical.
Prisoners
This is one to mark your calenders for and one to possibly keep in mind for awards season. Prisoners is the story of a man who kidnaps and tortures the person he thinks kidnapped his daughter and her best friend. Prisoners opens on September 20, 2013 and has an all star cast of Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Melissa Leo, and Paul Dano.

Cleric and 2 Others Arrested in Vatican Bank Investigation

The Italian police on Friday arrested a prelate, a financial broker and an agent of the Italian Secret Service on corruption charges as part of a complex plot in which the priest — who is already under investigation on suspicion of money laundering involving the Vatican Bank — is accused of trying to repatriate millions of euros from Switzerland to Italy in a private plane.
Those arrested were charged with fraud, corruption and slander as part of a broad investigation tied to the famously secretive Vatican Bank.
Prosecutors say that the broker and the Secret Service agent had been plotting to help the priest bring 20 million euros, or $26 million, into Italy from Switzerland in a private jet, the ANSA news agency reported. It said that the 20 million euros belonged to “some friends of the monsignor.” The plot never went through.
In a statement, the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said that the priest, Msgr. Nunzio Scarano, had been suspended from his position at one of the Vatican’s main financial departments “more than a month ago, ever since his superiors were informed that he was under investigation.”
The Vatican spokesman said that the Holy See had not received any requests from the Italian authorities, but confirmed its “willingness for full collaboration,” and that the Vatican’s internal financial watchdog was following the matter and would take appropriate measures “if necessary.” Those would include requesting that the Vatican’s internal prosecutor open an internal investigation into the monsignor.

Verizon on hiring track in Tampa, adding 100 FiOS customer reps

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is staffing its national customer-retention center in Tampa with 100 new sales representatives to support various sales and customer support functions mainly for its wireline FiOS Internet and FiOS TV services.
New staff members will work in the telco’s downtown Tampa call center after regular business hours to handle requests from new and existing wireline customers in 12 states and Washington, D.C.
Complementing its own recruitment efforts, Verizon is working with the City of Tampa and economic development partners like the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation and the Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance.
