The TV set vs. black families: African Americans must quit their terrible 7-hour-a-day diet

We MUST stop using the television set as a babysitter. Children doesn’t learn anything from the majority of TV they watch. The exception is public television and shows like: Sesame Street, Electric Company, Clifford, etc. those are excellent shows that do help our children. Seven hours is way too much time watching what my parents called, “the idiot box.” Instead of letting children “vegetate” watching television; read to them, have them read to you, talk to them, teach them how to sweep, mop, cook, or any other “life skill.” Kids watching large amounts of television contributes to behavior and learning problems. STOP this trend!

U.S. Racial and Economic Inequality, Visualized

We hear these statistics on the news so much that it becomes just numbers or white noise in our minds.  We may need that graphic visual for those numbers to hit home and put clarity to a confusing state of affairs. This is one of those visual graphics that clearly illustrates just how far this nation still needs  to travel towards equality.

Google won’t release minority hiring statistics, claiming trade secret

Does Google have something to hide? Publicly traded corporations has a responsibility to be transparent. Hiring procedures & processes can be considered a trade secret, in an extreme sense. I will give them that point, however ludicrous it may be. An interview or multiple interviews, personality test, background check, drug test…those are standard processes. However, providing a simple total count of employees; broken down by ethnic and gender breakdown is not.

The Floacist: Natalie Stewart & Musiq Soulchild-Forever

Natalie Stewart’s solo CD came out back in November. It quickly became a favorite of mine. Now that Marsha Ambrosius’ CD has come out I can say that both are extremely soulful and well executed. The difference? Marsha’s is a little more commercial than Natalie’s. Marsha Ambrosius’ disc has the groove urban radio digs. Whereas, Natalie’s disc is more of a quiet storm, mature outing. Either way, BUY both! You will love ’em. Here’s my favorite from Natalie Stewart’s CD, Floetic Soul.

Can this work?

This morning I woke up to hear a “talking head” on the news saying that we may soon see $6/gallon gas. That would be a complete disaster on my budget, and everyone else’s. The current price is bad enough and wreaking havoc on all of us. Of course, I had to get some gas. At the gas station, I was told by the guy filling up next to me about how great hypermiling is. It fascinated me, so I have decided to try it. I found this two year old video from CNN that explained it simply. Let’s see if it can work for all of us….
