Technology is taking its toll on the drive-through teller lanes. Bank of America BAC +1.60% said its closing some of the car-friendly lanes, although it declined to specify how many will be shuttered, reports NPR. The reason? Mobile banking and online services are reducing the need for the drive-through lanes. While millions already bank via mobile phone, that number is expected to keep booming. Last year, 33 million Americans used mobile banking, which projected to almost triple to 96 million by 2016, according to Aite Group. One in six smartphone owners use their device to transfer money, pay bills and check balances, Aite Group found. And with more employers using direct deposit, some bank customers have reduced the need to visit a teller or use a drive-through window. Indeed, Bank of Americas decision to shut down some drive-through teller lanes raises the question of whether this marks the beginning of the end for an 80-year-old tradition. One of the first drive-through teller lanes was highlighted in a 1930 issue of Popular Mechanics, which noted the “thief-proof” slot in the tellers window.

Rick Perry Quietly Lobbies The White House For $100 Million In Obamacare Funding

Politico reported Tuesday evening that Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s (R) administration is in negotiations with the Obama White House to accept about $100 million in federal money to implement an Obamacare Medicaid program to help elderly and disabled Americans.

Perry has been a heated opponent of the health law. He refused to accept $100 billion in federal funding to expand Texas’ Medicaid program under Obamacare, which could have helped 1.5 million poor Texans afford basic health benefits. As recently as April, Perry essentially called the expansion a joke. “Seems to me April Fool’s Day is the perfect day to discuss something as foolish as Medicaid expansion, and to remind everyone that Texas will not be held hostage by the Obama administration’s attempt to force us into the fool’s errand of adding more than a million Texans to a broken system,” said Perry.

Now, Perry is seeking federal dollars for Texas’ Medicaid program anyway.

The Affordable Care Act grants state funding to expand a program called Community First Choice, which aims to improve the community-based medical services available to disabled and elderly Americans. The wildly popular program is administered through Medicaid and could prevent thousands of disabled and older Americans from being uprooted from their homes%

Walmart’s Latest Scheme to Replace the Middle Class With an Underclass Forced to Buy its Shoddy Goods

Almost 30 years ago, as the U.S. was bleeding jobs, Walmart launched a “Buy America” program and started hanging “Made in America” signs in its 750 stores. It was a marketing success, cementing the retailer’s popularity in the country’s struggling, blue-collar heartland. A few years later, NBC’s Dateline revealed the program to be a sham . Sure, Walmart was willing to buy U.S.-made goods — so long as they were as cheap as imports, which, of course, they weren’t. Dateline found that Walmart’s sourcing was in fact rapidly shifting to Asia.

This year, Walmart is back with a new “Buy America” program. In January, the company announced that it would purchase an additional $50 billion worth of domestic goods over the next decade. This week, Walmart is convening several hundred suppliers, along with a handful of governors, for a summit on U.S. manufacturing .

This sounds pretty substantial, but in fact it’s just a more sophisticated and media savvy version of Walmart’s hollow 1980s Buy America campaign. For starters, $50 billion over a decade may sound huge at first, but measured against Walmart’s galactic size, it’s not. An additional $5 billion a year amounts to only 1.5 percent  of what Walmart currently spends on inventory.

Worse, very little of this small increase in spending on American-made goods will actually result in new U.S. production and jobs. Most of the projected increase will simply be a byproduct of Walmart’s continued takeover of the grocery industry. Most grocery products sold in the U.S. are produced here. As Walmart expands its share of U.S. grocery sales — it now captures 25 percent, up from 6 percent in 1998 — it will buy more U.S. foods. But this doesn’t mean new jobs, because other grocers are losing market share and buying less. What it does mean is lower wages. As I reported earlier this year, Walmart’s growing control of the grocery sector is pushing down wages throughout food production.

Toni Braxton & Babyface Team Up For Duet Album ‘Love, Marriage & Divorce’.

By Huffington Post

indexToni Braxton and Babyface are reuniting.

The R&B singers, who first worked together on the 1992 single “Give U My Heart,” are teaming up for an upcoming album of duets. Hyped to hit stores on Dec. 3, the duet album will be called “Love, Marriage & Divorce.”

Braxton and Babyface debuted “Hurt You,” the first single off of the album on Monday morning. The song showcases the veteran singers’ pipes in an emotional slow-tempo track. “Here we go / Damn, here we go again / Loving you has caused me so much pain / But you don’t see it, you never see it,” Babyface croons in the song. Take a listen to “Hurt You” above.

The 45-year-old Braxton released her last studio album, “Pulse,” in 2010. In the years since, Braxton has appeared in a reality show called “Braxton Family Values,” toured to continue her music career, and explored the possibility of an acting career. Babyface, 55, released his last studio album, “Playlist,” in 2007.
