The addiction? Chocolate Kreme, Vanilla Kreme, Old Fashioned, Glazed, Coffee with a French Vanilla shot with plenty of cream and sugar, and any breakfast sandwich from Dunkin Donuts.
I have been in Kansas City for 12 years and Dunkin Donuts is not a major presence here. Being born and raised in New York, Dunkin Donuts was the place to grab something on the run to the subway or bus to get to school or work. It’s a comfort food that reminds me of home.
Needless to say, since I left the joy of grabbing a great cup of joe and either a donut or breakfast sandwich had faded into the mist of memories in my mind, until last week.
Dunkin Donuts opened a new store on the corner of 75th and Metcalf in Overland Park, Kansas. This is directly in my path on my drive to work every morning. The day of its grand opening the store winked at me like a beautiful woman with a lil red dress and stilettos on. The store just hollered at me, “Come here big boy and let me satisfy you!”
You know what happened next. I pulled into the drive thru and ordered an Old Fashioned, Glazed, medium cup of coffee. “Thank you, baby.” the store said to me as I drove off. When I got to my desk at work and had my first sip of coffee and first bite of the donuts I coulda swore the tag on the bag said, “We got what you want, we got what you need.” I was in heaven it was an orgasm of the taste buds.
I have lost 30 pounds over the last 6 months. I’m not going down to this addiction. I have added an extra day to my workouts that normally last between 1 and 2 hours three times a week. I have to counteract the effects of Dunkin’s seduction of me. I will not go down in a blaze of chocolate sweet goodness! At least until tomorrow…..
