This was a disturbingly interesting article for me to read. Affirmative action programs has attempted to level the playing field for ALL minorities not just race related minorities. Affirmative action programs and laws have helped women, physically & mentally challenged persons-white, black and any other color and ethnicity for years in our country to attain levels of achievement and opportunity that otherwise may not have existed. America has deep divides when it comes to equality not just racial divides but divides of anything or anyone “outside” of norms determined by different individual cadres of citizens. Instead of attempting to heal those divides as an elected official James Webb has contributed to a greater divide.

Soul Bro,
Whats one way to end institutional racism? By creating more institutional racism…..
Read this. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/19/opinion/19douthat.html?_r=1&ref=columnists
I would argue that tipping the scales towards undeserving folks creating racist or biased quotas only creates resentment amongst those they are trying to help. Being granted something you may or may not deserve would do a lot of harm, and it seems with a black president, black attorney general, black justices, black secretaries of state, etc, people would be able to realize that exacerbating victimhood and unfair advantages to those who never actually felt the sting of “institutional racism” is the worst way to go about it…
Not sure of your age, but i assure you my generation cares VERY little about race, let alone other so-called inequalities or protected classes. We’re all just living and trying to do our best, andthe entitlement mind pnly works to erode the hard working fabric of our nation that made it the world super power and the beacon of tolerance for those to aspire towards.
Thank you for visiting, MacGregor!
Race transcends generations. It depends on the environment a person is in and other factors. In Bangor Maine, in May a white supremist group was recruiting persons 15-35 years old. The Creativity Movement (World Church of the Creator) espoused racist doctrines while pretending to be a religious movement. There’s the American Front that operates in many states (it was founded in 1987) the band Stormtroop 16 is connected to the group. All of these groups appeal to persons of different ages so to make a statement that an entire generation, is not concerned by race is inaccurate. Even the duplication of the doll study commissioned by CNN and aired on AC360 a few months ago confirms that race is an issue of significance in the US.

Regarding Affirmative Action, the laws protect and benefits all people, of any gender or ethnicity. Not just African Americans, even though that is what we are commonly led to believe by the media.
Here are some success stories: . I would also like to refer you to Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers
