Two is such a great age. You are full of wonder and bursting with energy. You see the world as new and every day you have a new adventure. From the sunrise to sunset everything is so new to you. You are surrounded by love and that you feel now in the present. Your feelings are raw and expressive just like the sun that beams on your skin.
Many years from now you may not remember this time. As you read this many years later, remember that this is the time that helped mold you into the man who you will be. My wish for you is that you never allow anyone to take the joy you feel right now as you turn two. The awe you have for God’s creation, the love you feel and have for your family, the honor, respect, and integrity you are learning to have for yourself.
I will see you in a short time almost a year from the date we first met. I will see how much you have grown, how much you have changed in 12 short months. You may not remember me and that’s all right. As you grow up you will get to know me as I you, remember that throughout your journey to adulthood life is ever-changing. The one thing that will not change is the love I have for you. No matter where I may travel to you are always in my heart and always a phone call away: for advice, for guidance, for just a supportive ear. I will and always will be your friend, just like I am to your father who is as close to me as anyone on this planet could be. Your father and I passed the best friend stage decades ago and he is my brother and a great man. Remember that as you may get a spanking, a time out, and grounded as time passes it is not for naught; it is to teach a life lesson that you may not learn otherwise.
As I consider your father my brother, I consider you my son. In a few weeks, I will take a public vow to renounce sin and the devil, live by faith and the teachings of Christ and his Church, pronounce the Faith and promise to guide you on that path of Faith. I took that same vow silently the day you were born and again last year when I met you the first time and will take that vow again each year into the future.
So, as you read this many years from now I want you to remember to enjoy life, have fun, always do your best, your parents and family loves you, and that you are a great person!
With all my love,
