This is not shocking, it is extremely sad and disturbing. Black men have many unique obstacles placed before us that directly impacts the completion of our education. Despite those challenges a “learning” environment needs to be created for a boy child from a very early age. Read to that child, have the child read to you. Do not let the television or video games be their instrument of learning, let a book do that. Our community watches more than double the television than other communities in America. Be active in your child’s school. Monitor and look over their homework. Instill the expectation of academic excellence in your child. It all begins with the parents.
