We are one in Spirit but it seems that as human beings we are very separate. This is not so. We are not as separate as we might think. As human beings, we are very much interdependent. We are much more intimate with one another than we might realize.

From birth to death we are dependent upon others. From the time the first humans walked on this planet, the family, the tribe, and the community have been necessary to sustain human life. Today our community includes virtually everyone on Earth; this is certainly evident in the arena of economics and commerce.

As I have my breakfast of fruit, cereal, and coffee, I consider the people from many countries who are part of my morning’s breakfast: the farmers in the United States who grew the grain, the workers on the coffee plantations in South America and the banana plantations in Central America, the dockworkers, the railroaders, the truckers, the distributors, the grocers, and many others are all part of my morning breakfast.

As I go to my closet to get dressed, I find shirts and trousers made in 24 different countries. My watch, my computer, and my automobile were all made in other countries. The food we eat, the clothing we wear, the cars we drive, and the gadgets we operate are produced from virtually everywhere on Earth.

A joint excavation led by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Israel Antiquities Authorities discovered two of the largest structures ever uncovered from the Kingdom of Judea, the Israel Antiquities Authorities announced on Thursday. Researchers Prof. Yossi Garfinkel and Saar Ganor identified one of the structures as a palace of King David, while the other as a large storage structure for the kingdom. The excavation, which lasted seven years, gives evidence to state building and administrative organization during the time of King David. According to Garfinkel and Ganor, “The ruins are the best example to date of the uncovered fortress city of King David,” giving researchers a step up in understanding the origins of the kingdom of Judah. “This is indisputable proof of the existence of a central authority in Judah during the time of King David,” the archaeologists said.

I killed Trayvon Martin

This infrequently used blog has awakened for a timely guest post from Eddie Hatcher.

Eddie in a hoodieI’m a racist. There is no known cure, so best I can hope for is to minimize the symptoms. I’ve struggled my whole life to do just that, but I still can’t help but feel partially responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death. I carry this guilt because nothing I do is enough to combat the system I once gladly took part in.

I grew up in a small North Carolina town surrounded by farms and factories. What I learned about racism, I learned hanging out in hunt clubs, on farms, in country stores, and in gun shops. We often talked about race, but never about racism. Everyone knew that racism stopped existing after Integration. In our minds, we were not discriminating against anyone because of their skin color; we were simply describing the way people acted, their…

SPENT

jobsUnderstand how being unemployed can endanger not just yourself but those you love. Understand how we need to raise the minimum wage. Living on a $9.00 the minimum wage  would still be extremely hard for families to survive but it would be better than the current $7.25. Not by much though. Can you make it through a month with money to spare? Learn a lesson….
