This is not surprising. What this confirms is the destruction of the traditional family structure in America. Not just Black America. Our community however is inordinately affected. In my view this is what has over time contributed to the issues black men and women have in our communication and relationships with each other. There is no greater example for a child than a respectful, loving relationship between their parents. That relationship serves as a template for young boys and girls in setting their expectations and behaviors later in life. It is that relationship that can also heal many of the ills not just in our community, but others as well.

The Love Story That Made Marriage a Fundamental Right
I remember my parents and grandmother talking about the Lovings when I was a little boy. It was just more talk of “the movement” and I didn’t really give my full attention to it. Like many things of my youth, once I have “lived a little” and got a measure of “seasoning” I realize their story is above all else a story of love. Love has no color barrier. By extension, it doesn’t have a sexual barrier, either. Love transcends all human and earthly experience. Love is the true essence of God, Yaheh, Allah and it is love that truly graces humanity as a divine creation. Don’t block the love!! We are ignorant of this lesson. Watch the documentary when it airs on HBO. This is an incredible story and the Lovings were incredible people.
