Farrakhan’s ‘Million Man March’ 15 years later: Much ado about nothing

It’s true the promise the Million Man March is yet to be achieved. Fifteen years ago it was still more about “me” than “we” or  “us”. Fifteen years ago, in 1995 unemployment was 5.6%, stamps cost .32 cents, Bill Clinton was President and we were in the midst of one of the most historic economic upticks in American history fueled by the rise of the .com’s. That economic boom did trickle down to our community, albeit slowly. There are pockets of Black Men around the United States that is attempting to live up to the promise. We do have to as a community address education, incarceration, employment, and above all the family issues that have unacceptably grown into a cancerous tumor in our community. We can and must treat ourselves to change the generational paradigm.

Ebony’s Website Re-Launch puts Magazine over Digital

It has its weaknesses, but is a work in progress. In all likelihood this was already in the advanced planning stages way before Désirée Rogers and Amy DuBois Barnett came on the scene. I would not be surprised if a re-launch of the re-launch will occur with use of better software and design. Ebony’s digital identity will develop and refine itself over time, it simply must. Go and buy or renew your subscription to the magazine on their site (www.ebonyjet.com). There is nothing like having the tactile feeling of reading a magazine.

Harlem Getting its First Major Hotel Since 1967

This is fantastic from a business/commerce perspective. What concerns me is Harlem becoming too commercial, too branded. I love the small independent businesses that I grew up with. I love the rawness and comfort of the neighborhood I grew up with. I do not want to go to Harlem and feel like I am having a Disney-like experience, like I do when I go to Times Square.
