It’s true the promise the Million Man March is yet to be achieved. Fifteen years ago it was still more about “me” than “we” or “us”. Fifteen years ago, in 1995 unemployment was 5.6%, stamps cost .32 cents, Bill Clinton was President and we were in the midst of one of the most historic economic upticks in American history fueled by the rise of the .com’s. That economic boom did trickle down to our community, albeit slowly. There are pockets of Black Men around the United States that is attempting to live up to the promise. We do have to as a community address education, incarceration, employment, and above all the family issues that have unacceptably grown into a cancerous tumor in our community. We can and must treat ourselves to change the generational paradigm.
