Obama’s glass jaw

Official presidential portrait of Barack Obama...

I ran across this piece in Foreign policy magazine while doing research for another item. David Rothkopf writes a very fascinating article that makes three clear points we need to remember:

  • the issues of this nation President Obama is facing were a decade or more in creation.
  • President Obama has had an unusual record of success in a relatively short time in office, successes his predecessors did not have..
  • The Democratic Party is not embracing their successes; they are not attacking on the issues and seem to be distancing themselves from the administration. I feel this is the result of the President’s race.

I will agree that the President and the administration must demand the support and discipline of the Democratic Party. Every President has made that demand of their party, so his demands would not be new or a precedent. Hopefully, the appointment of Peter Rouse as interim chief of staff may stop some of the public displays of dissent in the President’s party.

Ultimately, being the President of the United States is challenging enough. Being the first minority President of the United States has exacerbated negative, divisive, inaccurate, imbalanced, and discriminatory hyperbole into a high art form. President Obama does not have a glass jaw however, instead of being  using strategy and tactics all the time I would sometimes like to see him throw a right hand at his detractors like Mike Tyson did to Michael Spinks in 1988 (not literally, but figuratively). This offensive action may “brush back” some of the gross inaccuracies that some people ignorantly believe and some members of the press reports.

Johnson Publishing CEO Rogers discusses plans for Ebony

Ms.Rogers has a full plate in reviving Johnson Publishing. This article from Crain’s Chicago Business reveals some of her immediate action items.  Recruiting Motorola nad Citigroup as advertisers are strong first steps. I subscribed to both magazines and the best way we can express our support to both magazines is through renewing and purchasing subscriptions.

John Legend: Wake Up! We Know How to Fix Our Schools

This is a wake up call to all of us. Education is vital and John Legend argues his case clearly and convincingly. It is time to break the complacency of letting someone else spearhead educational reform and let’s do it ourselves for ourselves and our children.

Bill Clinton lobbies for earthquake aid to Haiti

Outraged! That’s how I feel about this situation. Unfortunately, in Righting A Wrong I identified the reason Haiti seems to be victimized by the global community. As I have previously posted Sen Tom Coburn is the hearatless legislator holding up the release of U.S. aid. Maybe, Bill Clinton can remove the logjam in supplying the promised monies to rebuild and give aid to the citizens of Haiti.

Lyfe Jennings live at J&R

This is so sad. A talented artist, a talented man. This is a lesson to not let our rage overcome our logic. Stay strong, my brother while bearing your cross.

6-year-old black child’s ‘KKK’ mask alarms parents

Kansas City is not far so I have been to Fort Scott, KS. The one word that comes to mind is, C-O-U-N-T-R-Y. Pittsburgh, KS is the same. They are both relatively small towns. Dallas Smith, has experienced at a young age racism, fear, and inferiority. The art class allowed expression of the children and Dallas expressed his pain. It is no different from the pictures abused children draw. This was a time for the teacher to call the parents, get the principal, and create a teachable moment where all the kids can learn respect, inclusiveness, equality, fairness, tolerance, and love for each other and their differences.

Schoolhouse Rock: Where the Money Goes

This series was some of the best educational programming EVER on network television. It is timeless and I along with millions of other kids in the 70’s grew up on this. Take a moment to reminisce, call the kids to the computer, and maybe take some notes because you forgot the subject. Don’t worry though, next Saturday the Soul Brother will post another episode
