Does the NAACP Have a Leadership Problem?

Lynette Holloway brings up some interesting points on both sides of th argument. Ben Jealous has in some respects has energized and embraced the youth movement, which to me is anyone below the age of 45. In some respects prior to his appointment the organization had lost contact with the younger generations. He has helped to rebuild that connection. No organization is perfect, nor is any one person. Was there a breakdown? Yes. Was there a lack of analysis of the situation and statement? Yes. Is there a lack of leadership? As the recently approved revision of  sentencing standards between powder and crack cocaine and the rehearing of the Troy Davis case I would submit definitely not.

John Mayer- Waiting on the World to Change

Last year when Continuum dropped, I immediately gravitated to this song. The question is, how long do we have to wait? Or, will it ever change?

Working Dads: Hidden Heroes in the New Fatherhood Movement

Mr. Glazer points out a community that is more than overlooked, men who are active in their children and family’s lives. The media generally covers all the negatives about us. The media generally covers us as irresponsible, immoral, distant, not active, and deadbeat. That is the exception, not the rule. Mr. Glazer writes about the majority of men who love their children and partner, is responsible, morally competent, more than active, and definitely support their family. I think the challenges and pressures men face are just as important as those women face, maybe more so because men are expected to be the bread-winner and protector of the family. That maybe an antiquated view, yet many men like myself was raised in that mold.

Sick Neighborhoods Create Barriers to Health for Men of Color

I wholeheartedly believe this. Before, I moved from NYC I had really bad asthma and allergies, splotchy skin and psoriasis, and a nervous muscle twitch in my hands. Needless to say, since I moved the asthma is almost non-existent, my allergies are under control, my skin has cleared and I do not have any skin diseases, and my muscle twitch went away. My physician openly told me the environment that I lived in while in NYC (NYC Housing Project) caused my ailments. The air I was  breathing irritated my lungs and skin which exacerbated my allergies causing what is called allergic asthma and the psoriasis. The twitch was being caused by the physical and mental stress I was under. Many do not have the ability to move, unfortunately so I implore you to become active in the community politically to bring this issue to light. In the meantime, buy hepa-air filters to use in the home, buy water filters (such as Brita & Pur), try to keep dust and dander to a minimum and when you do vacuüm or dust try to wear an N95 certified face mask, above all aet right and excercise.

Michelle Obama – A food bill we need

The first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama writes this opinion piece in today’s Washington Post. It is important that our children learn to eat healthy and excercise. The rate of high blood pressure, diabetes, and other related health issues along with many schools serving unhealthy food and cutting gym periods is unacceptable. Mrs. Obama’s initiative is one that can change our children and our country for years to come.
