Martin Luther King III, Rev. Al Sharpton, the NAACP, NUL, and others will be commemorating the 47th anniversary of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington D.C. just not at the Lincoln Memorial. Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin has decided to hold their Tea Party inspired “Restoring Honor’ event at the Lincoln Memorial. I do understand and agree with Dennis Henigan that the NRA attending the “Restoring Honor” event is in direct conflict with the message of Dr. King and his message of non-violent opposition to injustice. The fact that the “Restoring Honor” event is being held on the same day and place as the March on Washington and the message of the event is in some ways disrespectful, I feel to the memory and legacy of Dr. King and what the civil rights movement stands for. The NRA in attendance at the “Restoring Honor” event should deliver a message to all of us.
