The tortures of war. Not just the soldiers or civilians are affected but the reporters covering it are too. Michael Ware’s coverage of the two American wars reminded me of Walter Cronkite’s coverage of the Vietnam War, outstanding. Gripping account and great job from Jason Linkins about a looming controversy for a media giant.

As always some items are not covered completely by our news outlets. Over the weekend there was coverage of elections in Afghanistan. That news was overshadowed by domestic events. This is an interesting perspective from the former Prime Minister of Denmark and current Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussing the situation in the country.

This is an eye opening article from Darrick Hamilton and William Darity Jr. from The American Prospect. A African-American or Latino family will have to work three years and save 100% of their income to even attempt to close the wealth gap? Wow! As a community we need to stop spending on the latest, greatest, and flashiest items and product. We need to educate ourselves about money, the power of it, and savings. That would be a step we can take and control. I agree wholeheartedly that, “we should strive not for a race-neutral America but a race-fair America.”

This is from Seal’s new disc, Committment. It comes out next Tuesday. I had the opportunity to listen to an advance copy last night, it is the most revealing and personal of all of his material. Have a taste of Secret.
The former Secretary of Labor succinctly provides a very logical and coherent argument why tax cuts for the richest two percent of Americans should end and be extended for the remaining 98 percent. The common folks of America.

As we get settled into a new school year, I would like to share this video. It describes today’s student. How we learn, how we learn, and what we are concerned about. Excellent job by Michael Wesch and the students of Kansas State University.
You may remember her as Shug Avery in the original BROADWAY CAST OF OPRAH WINFREY PRESENTS: THE COLOR PURPLE. After a three-year break her new CD No Regrets has come out. This is the lead single from the disc, but not the strongest Bittersweet and Dream ties for that spot. Download and get it today. You will like it!
Repairing the GOP’s relationship with the black community

A dialogue must begin between the Republican Party and African-Americans. The question is, Will anyone listen? This is a great piece from Sophia A. Nelson on a very provocative topic. In my experience being black and a Democrat is a learned, generational experience. My grandmother was a Democrat, my parents are Democrats, my older sisters Democrats, so I became a Democrat. Yet, to the chagrin of my peers I voted Republican for President Ronald Reagan’s second term. I have been Independent for ten years now, because neither party consistently follows up with action the topics that most interest me. Republican’s and Democrat’s for that matter must first begin to end the attacking, partisan, and divisive tactics. African-Americans must engage and educate themselves in the political process and teach their children the same. Finally, the Republican party must actively engage and advance African-Americans and their concerns openly and legislatively before engaging in dialogue with our community. In this regard, I am from the “show me state,” actions will speak louder than words.
