Recession Ended in June 2009, Group Says

Hmmm. The recession ended and we moved to a depression. The National Bureau of Economic Research says the recession ended in June last year. How many unemployed and broke economists are there? Let’s stop looking at statistics and formulas and look at the reality of millions of Americans.

30 Years Later, Freedom in a Case With Tragedy for All Involved

The Innocence Project has successfully proven that Phillip Bivens and Bobby Ray Dixon did not commit. How many others are serving prison time for crimes they did not commit? How many others were coerced to admit to crimes by police detectives who just want a quick resolution to a case? As I had written in “Is that all? Is all forgiven?” What happens to Mr. Bivens and Mr. Dixon after thirty years of incarceration?

Fighting to Protect Consumers

Elizabeth Warren personally delivers to all of us the importance of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Hopefully, the organization and the vision that President Obama and Ms. Warren share will not be derailed by the party of “NO.”

How Can We Bring About a Compassionate Society?

Matthieu Ricard in Tibet

Image via Wikipedia

This is a good question to ask of us today. To change the world we must change ourselves first. The most powerful statement in the article is by Matthieu Ricard, “Developing our own positive inner qualities is the best way to help others.” Can we all begin to do this?

Take It to God

Overcome by life and the world around you? Take it to God. Need to overcome your fears and insecurities? Take it to God. We can all use this reminder. Psalm 55 reminds us to take all our problems to God and He will allow us to overcome.

Psalm 55

Listen to my prayer, O God,
do not ignore my plea;

hear me and answer me.
My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught

at the voice of the enemy,
at the stares of the wicked;
for they bring down suffering upon me
and revile me in their anger.

My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death assail me.

Fear and trembling have beset me;
horror has overwhelmed me.

I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest-

I would flee far away
and stay in the desert;
Selah

I would hurry to my place of shelter,
far from the tempest and storm.”

Confuse the wicked, O Lord, confound their speech,
for I see violence and strife in the city.

Day and night they prowl about on its walls;
malice and abuse are within it.

Destructive forces are at work in the city;
threats and lies never leave its streets.

If an enemy were insulting me,
I could endure it;
if a foe were raising himself against me,
I could hide from him.

But it is you, a man like myself,
my companion, my close friend,

with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship
as we walked with the throng at the house of God.

Let death take my enemies by surprise;
let them go down alive to the grave, [b]
for evil finds lodging among them.

But I call to God,
and the LORD saves me.

Evening, morning and noon
I cry out in distress,
and he hears my voice.

He ransoms me unharmed
from the battle waged against me,
even though many oppose me.

God, who is enthroned forever,
will hear them and afflict them—
Selah
men who never change their ways
and have no fear of God.

My companion attacks his friends;
he violates his covenant.

His speech is smooth as butter,
yet war is in his heart;
his words are more soothing than oil,
yet they are drawn swords.

Cast your cares on the LORD
and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous fall.

But you, O God, will bring down the wicked
into the pit of corruption;
bloodthirsty and deceitful men
will not live out half their days.
But as for me, I trust in you.

Sesame Street

Sesame Street

One of my dearest and most special memories while I was in New York was the quality time I spent with my 2 year old godson Jayden. He was the reason why I went home when I did. He loves Grover & Elmo from Sesame Street. This is for those times he may not be able to watch Super Grover or when everyone else is on Super Grover overload! Love you, Jay!!

Schoolhouse Rock:$7.50 Once a Week

This series was some of the best educational programming EVER on network television. It is timeless and I along with millions of other kids in the 70’s grew up on this. Take a moment to reminisce, call the kids to the computer, and maybe take some notes because you forgot the subject. Don’t worry though, next Saturday the Soul Brother will post another episode.
